Prelim Task

Mind Map:

On the right hand side is my groups mind map which we did worked together and shared ideas as a team. We decided the best way to get ideas out of all equally was if we just said them allowed and when we each had an idea we said it aloud which then ended up being worked on by another member of the group so that the idea was stronger and most of the time better. We thought that if we didn't limit any ideas we could then work on them in the process of planning. I think at the end of the mind mapping task we decided that the best idea so far we had come up with was the idea of including a chase as we thought as a group it would be fun and exciting to film and that we could involve a lot of camera movements into the task which would add to the thrilling action. Next lesson we want to jot more notes down and decide on the final idea of our short clip and decide why there is a chase happening and who between which would then help up with our story boards.

Story Boards:
Story Board 1:

In today's lesson I and my group decided we would each draw up our own individual story board of our ideas this way we thought it would be a great way to show each other our ideas in a different view. We each individually came up with different camera movements which we thought would be the best for our task. The only things which would have been the same are that it would include dialogue, a chase, an entrance of someone coming through a door. My idea was to have a tracking shot of the actor’s feet to build tension as the audience is not being able to see her face. By also putting in a upwards tilt in my opening I thought it would be a great camera movement which could gradually also build tension as the audience would only see the actors movements not her face.
We then came together next lesson and shared our thoughts and ideas with each other. I thought this was a great way to influence each other’s ideas and helped each get better results from one and other.

Story Board 2:

For instance I really liked the idea which Chloe came up with in her story board the chase being at the beginning as I had it at the end this showed our variation of ideas which we both had. From this we both agreed that it would be better further towards the end in fact so that we were able to build the scene at the beginning.

Story Board 3:

Laura-Jo's story board was quite similar to mine although at the beginning she decided to just have the actor walking towards the door which in contrast I didn't as I thought it would excite the audience more but we both decided that our idea of finishing the sequence by fading out.

 Final Story Board:

As a group we decided on an overall story board by all inputting on what we thought was best and what camera shot would be best suited to that part of the filming. Laura Jo did the writing part of the story board with my inputting of the drawing and Chloe helped overlooking and in putting her ideas, I thought this worked well as it enabled all our ideas to be heard. We decided that we would use my ideas of using a tracking shot of the actor’s feet to build tension and make the opening more dramatic. We then went into the idea of used a tilt shot up the door to then further lead onto opening the door. My group also thought that this would work well as it would be good if we then zoomed into the actors hand to show the audience the door being opened. We then decided that the conversation we had planning would be seated on a bench but this didn’t work out as on the day of filming it was snowy for which all the benches was covered in snow which then we worked around this issue as I suggested we did the conversation standing.

In our planning we intended to shoot the conversation as shot reverse shot but in the end we didn’t as we thought it may take too much time to edit and we wanted to make sure we would finish it on time. After this we did a shot of the actor running to later lead on to hand held as we thought would be a good idea as it would fit in well to a chase scene. As we was filming Chloe suggested that it would be good to do a pan shot to show the audience what the young girl would be looking at whilst she was breathing behind the trees, this worked well I thought as it helped show the audience that she was alone and that she could have been scared. After that we decided that it would fade out as it could be left on a cliff hanger so keep the tense drive which we have built throughout the scene. As we was editing we decided that it would be good if we had a some text at the end to show the title of our work which was I.O.U, in the end I thought this worked really well as it suited the fading affect at the end.

Final Production:

As a whole I and my other group members thought our prelim task turned out really good. We overall thought that our basic idea was very clear and easy to follow from the start to the finish and from asking other people for their opium's they also sounded impressed with our final result. We was only disappointed on the quality of the video as it got uploaded onto YouTube as we thought it looked much better and fluent on the editing software. We thought that the changes we made throughout the filming process worked really well as we was unsure that we would have regretted them as we did not plan to film them parts. My favourite part of the task is the part of the filming which was hand held as I think that it works really well and adds a lot of effect on adding tension to the short film which is shown in the print screen above on the right. Also because as I was the main actress in the short clip I didn't get much of a chance to do the filming so it gave me an opportunity to have a go at the filming.

Editing:
I also really think that our editing pulled off in the end as it was all of ours first time for using the editing programme and at first we found it a struggle but in the end we found that because we planned the filming part well it helped us edit them together so it didn't look jumpy. My favourite part of the task is the part of the filming which is hand held as I think that it works really well and adds a lot of effect on adding tension to the short film which is shown in the print screen above on the right. I also love how well the fading at the end worked out as I think it worked out really well. The main transitions throughout our prelim task was quick edits which we saw as a opportunity to cause more tension and build up the excitement.
